GREAT PERKS
Onsite Cafes: Google chefs concoct a variety of free, flavorful meals for Googlers, and special events such as barbeques and theme days keep the menu fresh and interesting. Local chefs and Googlers who love to cook give demos on preparing simple, healthy meals at home. Between meals, Googlers can help themselves to (mostly) healthy snacks and beverages in one of many micro-kitchens found in each building. Many sites also let Googlers sign up to receive community supported agriculture (CSA) boxes at the office. - Training: Googlers teach each other through g2g classes led in person or online through Google Hangouts. Courses cover technical subjects as well as hobbies such as yoga or tango. In the past 12 months, more than 26,500 unique Googlers attended more than 3,000 courses and more than 70 percent of Google offices received in-person training. Google has also invested in a platform that works across mobile, tablet and desktop to provide product training to all employees in the global business organization.
- Commuting Services: Googlers can take free shuttles from all over the Bay Area to the company's Mountain View headquaters, giving them time to relax or catch up on work or personal email through free Wifi. If employees walk or bike to work, the company will make a donation to a charity of their choice for each self-powered commute.
- Onsite Conveniences: Googlers and their families, especially those working out of the Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, enjoy onsite services such as dry cleaning, bike repairs, haircuts, free laundry rooms, oil changes and passport services. The Google concierge team helps with personal tasks like planning vacations or making restaurant reservations.
- Health Care: Wellness centers in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Kirkland and Mountain View offer basic preventive medicine, illness diagnosis and treatment, lab services and health education. Several offices also have onsite licensed clinical counselors and Weight Watchers @ Work sessions. Google covers 90 percent of health care premiums for employees and their family members.
- Personal Finance Resources: Googlers can learn about personal finance via onsite classes, one-on-one financial consultations, expert speakers, free books and online financial articles and videos. Topics include financial planning for domestic partners, caring for special needs children or buying a home. In addition to a 401(k) match for retirement savings, Googlers can save for a child's or other relatives' college education through optional contributions to a 529 college savings plan.
